ENCOUNTER 2010

March 23, 2010 — Leave a comment

We just returned from our youth retreat and had a great weekend! Jon Manafo was our speaker and we were challenged with the Jesus Creed from Mark 12:28-33:

28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.a]”>[a] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’b]”>[b] 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’c]”>[c]There is no commandment greater than these.”

32“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Lesson 1: Hear/Listen; God is ONE (1+1=1)
Lesson 2: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Lesson 3: Love Others

On Friday evening, the girls were planning to get the boys. They waited until 4am, Saturday morning, to setup a prank. Of course you wanna see it, so here is the video:

MJ: “This Is It”

March 14, 2010 — 1 Comment

“This is it”: The prophetic words spoken by Michael Jackson at his last press conference in London.

I’ve been watching the movie (same title) and have been amazed to see MJ in a new light. I remember listening to Black or White in elementary school while riding on the school bus with my big ol’ chunky but digital walkman. I remember songs such as Heal the World or that famous Free Willy track Will You Be There. and then there are the classics like Thriller, Billie Jean and Smooth Criminal.

Now, as I watch This is it, I am finally seeing the man behind the music. As a musician myself, i observe his incredible attention to every single note that the piano is playing, and every step the dancers must make. I love seeing the “king of pop” in action.

I’m halfway through the movie but here’s a thought to chew on: who is reaching celebrities (and by “reaching” i mean reaching with the Gospel message)? I know MJ says, “God bless you”, but does that mean someone took the time to tell him? So many artists have roots in Gospel music but now are playing gigs with questionable artists. If influence is a two-way street who is winning the battle in “reaching out”?

This is it…for now

Life’s Pace

March 13, 2010 — 2 Comments

it’s been over a week since I’ve been able to slot in some time to write a blog! Right now i find myself in Starbucks in the heart of downtown Toronto. It’s Pris’ bday and I’ve done my best to be available to her all day …except right now she’s out with the girls for her sister’s bday! (i love you babe)!

You see, this is the kind of week i’ve had:
I’ve been in church the last 4 out of 5 nights. It’s been necessary but a little “too much”, if you know what i mean. I have been trying to keep up with this “pace” this week but it’s been a challenge.

So my question is, how do you balance full-time ministry, family (I’ve been married just over 9 months), and personal time? I realize that sometimes we can’t help it (as was my case this week) but how do we make time?

Irony: “pace” is the italian word for peace

For the next 14 days (March 1 – March 14), McD’s will be giving away a small coffee for free. I have to admit that I once was addicted to Timmie’s (an early morning FedEx habit), but when McD’s first gave away free coffee last year, I slowly made the switch and have never looked back! As a coffee aficionado, I am blown away at how McD’s has managed to come up with such a great blend and taste but I am equally amazed at how they pull it off at a fraction of the cost (compared to Tim Horton’s). A McD’s medium coffee is comparable to a large at Timmie’s. You can also get a great deal with a coffee/muffin combo ($1.67 for a medium coffee and muffin).

So, if you find yourself strapped for cash and craving some caffeine, head to McDonald’s and i think you will be impressed with their coffee!
