Merry Christmas

December 25, 2010 — 2 Comments

Did you get all your shopping done in time? Well, you can relax now – today is Christmas!

Merry Christmas

Priscilla and I would like to wish all our family, friends, and fellow bloggers a warm and merry Christmas!

[Did you download my Christmas gift to you?]

Christmas, Children, and my (then) hot fiancée! Could this video get any better? I Found this video lying around on my harddrive and every time I watch it, I am always blown away by the talent that God has endowed my wife with. The video may be dark, but the song is bright: “You’re so cute – baby I love you!…

So glad when people give their gifts back to God, and use them for His glory.

Are you using God’s gift to its full potential? Don’t bury it, open it up and use it!

My Christmas Gift To You

December 16, 2010 — 3 Comments

Is your church in need of a nice warm “welcome video”? Are you looking for a creative way to say Merry Christmas?

Christmas Sunday is upon us and as my Christmas gift to you, I want to give you two After Effects files that I made for our church:

Welcome Video with Snow from Jon Manna on Vimeo.

I used this video during our Family Christmas Musical as people were walking in. We played music through the house as well. Please note that you need to loop the video in order for it to play seamlessly. We did this in our presentation software (i.e PropresentermediashoutSongShowPlus).

Merry Christmas Video with Snow from Jon Manna on Vimeo.

[UPDATED: *actual loop starts at 56 second mark. please ignore the first 56 seconds]

At the end of our Family Christmas Musical we showed this video as the cast came up on stage to take a bow. Again, please note that you need to loop the video if you want to let it run while everyone clears out of the auditorium.

My Christmas Gift to You

Download the Welcome with Snow AE file and the Merry Christmas with Snow AE file as my christmas gift to you!

[In order for you to use these AE files you will need two additional plugins from Red Giant Software called Trapcode Particular 2.1, and Trapcode Shine 1.6]

I’d love to see how you use these. So please post links in the comments. Enjoy!

Last week I wrote a post about a new project that I’m working on. Today, I am happy to give you this quick update:

Are you facing a difficult challenge? A tough time? A time of testing?

On Sunday, November 14, 2010 I preached a message entitled the Power of Your Testimony. Since no one is exempt from going through times of testing, I want to share some sermon notes, along with an audio excerpt from the message.

You’ll need roughly 23 minutes to listen to the audio, and I pray that you will be blessed and encouraged as you listen to how God has been faithful to my family and me.

Some notes on sharing your testimony:

Testimonies build faith and edify the body.

  • God is in the business of turning your test into a testimony.
  • God is in the business of turning your mess into a message // He’s with you through it

How to effectively share your testimony of Salvation:

  • 1 minute on how life was before you received Christ
  • 1 minute on how you received Christ
  • 1 minute on how your life has changed since then.

3 things you need to do if your are going through a time of testing (based on my text from Acts 16:16-34)

  1. Relentlessly Praise God
  2. Recognize the Potential for God to work
  3. Ready to Preach

Excerpt of my personal Testimony (Full version)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

[Even though this is only 23 minutes, please know that I could easily spend 24 hours sharing all that God has done in my life. He's so good!]

Do you have a testimony? You gotta share it! I dare you to leave it in the comments!

I Am a Manna Maniac!

December 9, 2010 — 1 Comment

Hey friends! I have a huge announcement to make: I am a Manna Maniac! That’s right, a Manna Maniac, and you can be one too.

I woke up this morning and drank a glass of water.

I washed my hands, brushed my teeth, and washed my face.

I went to the gym and showered after my workout.

I drove to my office and opened a bottle of water.

I even flushed the toilet (twice).

What do all these actions have in common? WATER!

Did you know that there are people who die every day simply because they have no safe water? We say we need money, but if you have water, truth is, you are already rich!

Gifts of Water from Water Missions on Vimeo.

I’m sure now that you are aware, you want to know how you can change that! That’s why you need to join the Manna Maniacs!

I’m leading my team to give Gifts of Water over the Christmas season:

Gifts of Water - Manna Maniacs

The concept is very simple: Give $10 and you provide clean drinking water for one person. Get more people to join your team and, consequently, more people will get clean drinking water.

Family, friends, rich people: would you consider joining me as a Manna Maniac to give the gift of safe water?

Are You A Worship Drummer

December 6, 2010 — 9 Comments

For a few weeks now, I’ve been chewing on an idea and even though I have a lot more thought to put into this, I think there’s more value in sharing it now (a good idea without execution is just a good idea).

I went to bed 3 weeks ago and in the last stages of dozing off, the words “Worship Drummer” came to mind. I thought it was cool, and I actually tweeted about it:

Twitter Update - Nov 13

This was what I tweeted on Nov 13.

Without much thought, I did what everyone else does, and checked for a domain name. WorshipDrummer.com was taken (the owner was asking $500) so I bought WorshipDrummer.ca.

WorshipDrummer Logo

So what is worshipdrummer.ca? Right now it is nothing much. A “coming soon” page is up and you can sign up for future updates and an eventual launch announcement. [If any one wants to offer some web design help, i'll gratefully accept]

What do I envision worshipdrummer.ca becoming? That’s the better question!

I have a passion to see excellence in our worship, and being a worship drummer myself, it is important to define what a true worship drummer is. Simply stated, a worship drummer concerns him/herself with putting the heart before the beat. Without this distinction, we would just be drummers. As worship drummers, we have a whole other responsibility which is of no bearing in secular music – the heart of a worshiper:

  • We play for an audience of One
  • We lift the name of Jesus above any/all names (yes, even our band’s name)
  • We wage war with the unseen world
  • We follow the leading of the Holy Spirit

As I’ve spent some time praying and thinking about our worship drumming  community, I believe the definition needs to be clear so that people will know what we’re all about.

Before the official launch

  • I will be working to get articles/posts from church drummers like you and me, and hopefully the pros
  • Bring accountability to our role as worship drummers
  • Drumming video tutorials (even though it’s about the heart, we also need to be excellent at what we do for God)
  • A whole bunch of other cool stuff

So are you a worship drummer? I am sure that there are hundreds and maybe even thousands of worship drummers in our great country of Canada (and around the world) and, as a fellow citizen, I want to invite you to jump on board with us.

Let’s connect and help spread the word!

Worship leaders, pastors, friends, blog readers, help spread the word.

DRUMMERS: WorshipDrummer.ca is for and about YOU!

We are on Facebook and Twitter and you can subscribe for updates and announcements about our launch.

If this has you excited, as it does me, I would love to connect and chat with you! Leave some comments and let’s get the party started!

Espresso Yourself!

December 6, 2010 — 1 Comment

It’s Monday, and that typically means that we need to jolt back into work-mode. I actually have the day off so I’m spending it at Starbucks, one of my favourite places to be, and drinks that I love. But of those of you who need some inspiration for your week, here are two things:

  • Espresso YourselfEspresso yourself. If you’re like me and need a jolt (all the time), go to your local Starbucks, or your favourite Italian cafe/bar and get a shot of espresso. If you’re not used to it, it might be a good idea to make sure to have a bathroom nearby too, as it sometimes goes “straight to the heart of the matter” :)
  • Express yourself. You might get frustrated for being misunderstood, but try it, in the end, you’ll feel good!

What do you do on Mondays to kick start your week? I want to know!
