Kiss The Music Stand Goodbye?

January 19, 2011 — 3 Comments

Have you tried using your iPad to replace your sheet music or charts? If so, did you simply place it on a music stand? Thanks to IK Multimedia now there’s a new way to take the iPad on stage with you:

iKlip with iPad

The iKlip is a universal microphone stand adapter for the iPad. Here’s what they have to say about their latest offering:

Now you can take your favorite iPad music apps on stage for live performance. The new iKlip for iPad makes it easy for you to use your iPad in any live setting — on stage, in the studio, at school or in the boardroom. With its multi-angle adjustable design, you can now securely position your iPad for optimal viewing and accessibility, while all controls, buttons and connection ports remain free from obstruction.

For $39 USD you get a pretty valuable option as more churches are embracing technology to enhance their worship experience [think North Point's iBand].

Do you see a home for this in the church? Can you see yourself, once and for all, getting rid of your music stand? Or is this just a dreamer’s world?

I always thought the iPad itself is one Apple gadget I’ll never ever need. Until I saw Martin Smith use it as a lead-sheet-music-stand-thingy when he was leading worship at a conference recently. I thought, THAT IS SO HANDY!! at least, it looks like it is.

It would not only mean that you avoid all the clutter of various leadsheets on your stand, but also having any song close, when you need it (without first putting your instrument down/leaving your seat, pick up the bursting binder and search for the right leadsheet, that might even be lost on sb. else’s stand etc. pp…

What I noticed though, is that Mr. Smith never had lead sheets on a stand before, only hidden very well on the floor. Is that due to some display-my-apple-gadgets-compulsive-behavior?

Anyway, can anyone who has tried this tell me about their experience?
