Archives For January 2011

It’s been a handful of months since I started blogging and I’ve taken these last 7 days to reflect on the positive things that I’ve learned about myself and the influence that I can have on others.

I realized that I’ve blogged about very random things thus far and one of my goals for 2011 is to find more of a focus for my writing.

As you’ve probably noticed, my site design has changed. Here’s what it looked like in 2010:

2010

The header contained the four main categories:

  • Life
  • Ministry
  • Music
  • Life

In looking at these categories, I realized they were too broad and as a result, my posts would reflect this as well. Broad, random, and not focused on a specific audience.

So what’s changed? Here’s the new 2011 look (which will evolve as I continue to prune and fine tune the blog):

2011

As you can note, the header is the difference, along with the one of the categories. Even though it doesn’t seem very significant, the change from Media to Technology is a biggie.

Simply put, this blog will be about music and technology, with a focus on ministry. Since all three blend in with my personal life, occasionally I may also blog about my life.

Glad you’ve joined me on this journey!

What do you think of the logo (it’s a funnel, by-the-way)? I welcome your input and take your comments seriously.

Any topics you’d like me to cover in regards to music and technology in ministry? Hit me up in the comments.

I had a coffee today with a friend of mine, Nathan. He’s busy putting on live events, booking artists, and consulting and I’m happy to help him announce that Martin Smith (front-man for Delirious?) and Nine O Five (FacebookTwitter) will be stopping in three cities in Ontario this February.

You might remember Martin Smith from this “worship blooper” video that went viral:

Josh McCabe and Nine O Five are ready to release their new EP on January 18 and will also be the backing band behind Smith. Here is the official poster:

Concerts are as follows:

Being a place that I frequent on a regular basis, taking a look at the future of Starbucks will always garner my attention.

First off, they’ve changed their logo. Here’s an illustrated history of the Siren logo:

Starbucks: new logo

In terms of their offerings, we will see some new products from Starbucks in the Spring of 2011. Here’s what Howard S., Starbucks chairman, president and chief executive officer has to say:

“As we look forward to Starbucks next chapter, we see a world in which we are a vital part of over 16,000 neighborhoods around the world, in more than 50 countries, forming connections with millions of customers every day in our stores, in grocery aisles, at home and at work. Starbucks will continue to offer the highest-quality coffee, but we will offer other products as well – and while the integrity, quality and consistency of these products must remain true to who we are, our new brand identity will give us the freedom and flexibility to explore innovations and new channels of distribution that will keep us in step with our current customers and build strong connections with new customers.” [full article]

What kind of products do you think they will develop? Do you like their new logo?

Do you need to say thanks to a pastor or leader but don’t have an ounce of creative juice flowing?

Yesterday I came across this video that a friend made. The video creatively let’s “Sam and Esther” know that they are loved and appreciated as leaders. This being Priscilla’s home church, I thought it would be cool to share it here on the blog:

What creative way of saying “Thanks” have you seen lately? How would you say thanks? I’d love to know!

One of the gifts I received from Priscilla this past Christmas was a documentary on DVD entitled, “A Drummer’s Dream”.

A Drummer’s Dream gives this synopsis:

Canadian film-maker John Walker presents his latest documentary “A Drummer’s Dream”. A rare and unique assembly of some of the greatest drummers in the world. Explosive talent, passion, humour and irresistible personality come together in a magical setting when seven diverse drummers create a profound and unforgettable experience. You’ve never seen drummers like this before! Featuring:

  • Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr
  • Dennis Chambers
  • Kenwood Dennard
  • Horacio “El-Negro” Hernadez

ADD Trailer @ from John Walker on Vimeo.

I’ve personally seen some of these drummers live at the Montreal Drum Fest and found this DVD to be one worth having for any passionate drummer!
