Archives For May 2011

It’s Monday and sometimes I think to my self, “I wish my day would look more like this”:

They are Pomplamoose and I love their music!

This past weekend I had the privilege of serving at the CAOG Roots ’11 Youth and Young Adult Convention. I was responsible for the programming of the main sessions as well overseeing all worship and creative aspects.

Part of what I really wanted to do was to get a live twitter stream going whereby students can tweet using a simple hashtag (e.g. #Roots11) and have it show up immediately on a screen. I figured this would give everyone an opportunity to share what God was doing in their lives throughout the course of the weekend.

After searching for a little while, I found a solution that was perfect for our needs. Here’s a simple tutorial of how you can achieve a similar result:

In case you are wondering, I use “command-1″ to toggle the output screen in ProPresenter.

Be sure to check out the results of our live twitter stream.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Last week Beacon Ads released the Creative Tech Bundle and I am pleased to announce here on the blog that JonManna.com has been selected to be a part of this 13-site bundle.

As per the 8Bit team, who now owns Beacon Ads, here’s why the bundle was created:

We create bundles because advertising in the Christian space can be confusing. By bringing together a compilation of the best Christian technology websites, it’s much easier to advertise across several of them at once.

Do you have something to advertise involving music or technology in relation to ministry? Maybe we’d be good partners! Check out your options for advertising on JonManna.com. If you’d like you can send me an email.

Just got an email from Unite Productions announcing another exciting date to keep:

On Saturday, August 13 Hillsong UNITED will be returning to Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre. Tickets will go on sale to the General Public on May 24th but will be available at itickets as a Pre Sale on Friday, May 20th. Their newly released CD AfterMath brings the music we love, revealing truth about Jesus. We’re glad they’re coming back!

I’ve been really busy lately on my WorshipDrummer blog. We recently launched a “Pro WorshipDrummers Series” featuring Josh McCabe, Dave de Smit (Article One), and Carl Albrecht (Paul Baloche). You should encourage your church worship drummers to check it out.

As well, yesterday, with the help of our friends over at Integrity Music, we launched a giveaway for 2 instructional Drumming DVDs from the Worship Team Director Series.

Visit WorshipDrummer.ca for more info and to enter the giveaway .

Dan and I have seen our paths cross on 3 main occasions. He’s aware of two of them. The third, not so much.

The first time our paths crossed was when he lead worship at our youth retreat in Montreal way back in 2000.

The second time was at SNED Youth Camp in 2002 (USA) when he volunteered and replaced our ailing keyboard player for a week of camp.

The third time, was when I came across his song Amazing. It was a song that meant a lot to me as I was going through the growing pains in my teen years. That song became an anthem for not only me but also our youth group.

All three occasions have impacted me and it is for this reason that I want to see Dan’s next album reach our ears and hearts.

I want to extend to you the opportunity to be a part of Dan’s new worship album – whether it’s small or BIG Let’s see this become a reality!

Through KickStarter.com, you can play a part in producing great worship music that will minister to countless hearts, including God’s. To thank supporters, Dan is offering some great swag. So depending on your donation, your reward can range from digital downloads to even being featured on Dan’s new album (can you say tambourine?;)).

Dan Macaulay

Looking forward to seeing this happen.. and who knows, maybe Dan will give us some CDs to give away here on the blog!!

I’ve already announced that Brenton Brown will be touring Ontario at the end of this month and now I’m excited to announce that my friend over at Glass Jar Group is hooking us up with a pair of tickets to give away. Regardless of if you win or not, Brenton is conducting a free training before each concert. I think that makes for a win-win scenario!

This past weekend I headed to Muskoka, ON to play at Transform Canada’s Resolve Student Conference. I was backing up Kristin Nicholls on drums and had the privilege of rooming with him for the weekend.

On Friday night, before dozing off, we were chatting and Kristin shared his testimony with me. It goes something like this: Success. Downward Spiral. The long journey back.

I was blown away with all that he shared and I’m reminded that we serve the God of second chances.

Besides being a rock star with killer vocals and guitar skills, Kristin is a sincere worship leader and loves Jesus. I’m glad I got to witness that this weekend. It’s been a blessing.

If you want to hear some of his story through his music, I encourage you to buy his EP on iTunes (US | Canada).

What second chance has God given you?

For those of you who know Kristin i think you will find these pics amusing:
