This was a breakout session with Bill Markham.
Reshaping Your Craft
- We are a reflection of the creator.
- We don’t have visitors, we have guests.
- We don’t take up an offering, we receive an offering.
- Need to preach this (vision) again because vision leaks
- Heard about multi-site. resisted it.
- Not replicating itself, but being closer to people; within reach of people
- Don’t wait until you understand something before you do it, step out of the boat.
- Don’t look for people who are qualified. Look for people who are passionate.
- You can teach people skills, but you can’t teach people passion.
- We thought that it (multisite) was gonna alleviate pressure on Scott street.
- We realized there are many multisite models but we don’t employ any of them. We do what works for us.
- When you want to start a church where there are already churches, Ask “why are we doing this?”
- Every time you change something, you win something and you lose something!
1. Envision the audience (thinks of a friend who doesn’t know Jesus) (20-min sermons)
- Trust site pastors with the conclusions.
- contexts on each site are different // It’s not a consumer/spectator church.
2. know your craft
- Do you walk a lot? on camera it doesn’t look so good
- become a student of preaching (Craig Groeschel, Andy Stanley,)
- Understand what is effective and ineffective and WHY!
3. Be Humble
- be humble because we are insecure.
If you want to go “multisite” as a church…
- Know your own DNA as a church
- ambiguity breeds ambiguity
- Make sure you understand the environment of your community
- Build a team around you
- willing to take a risk, pay the price, and who are passionate.
- Site pastor, worship pastor, e-gen ministry pastor
Don’t reach out to people… be within reach of people (so they can reach out to you)
- If we can’t do something with excellence, we won’t do it!
- We prepare our services in such a way that we equip the believer and engage the unbeliever
